Soundabout are looking to recruit a choir intern who will help to co-lead the Wiltshire inclusive choir sessions alongside the choir’s main directors. This will be both virtually (on zoom) and face-to-face in Wiltshire at the Warminster Civic centre.
The aim of each session is to create a musical space where all members can be heard and engage with music in their own way. Some members are non-verbal and connect to the music by using instruments (or as we like to refer to them, soundmakers, which are seen as an extension of voice), or via movement (more general movements, dancing, Makaton/ BSL signing). All sessions are participant led, with a focus on wellbeing, empowerment, fun and inclusivity.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to make a start in their career of music leadership. While experience is helpful, sharing similar values to Soundabout, openness to learn and commitment to the Choir is more important.
To support the main choir leader during a Soundabout Wiltshire Inclusive Choir session. This includes but is not exclusive of:
Face-to-face/ Hybrid sessions:
Providing support setting up and packing down equipment (e.g. room layout, chairs, tables, soundmakers, teas and coffees)
Co-leading activities and songs alongside the main choir leader (e.g. warm ups, choir songs, hello/ goodbye songs)
General participation, joining in with the music making in a positive and pro-active way. Ensuring members feel supported and if needed, helping those who may need more 1:1 support to engage with the music (e.g. members with PMLD, use of music technology etc).
Helping with refreshments. Serving tea, coffee, and cake to participants.
Online sessions:
Prep and planning time with main lead.
Pre-zoom meeting (15mins before session starts)
