Applications for the John Schofield Trust Fellowship are open

The time has come to apply for their 2023 programme of world-class journalism mentoring.

Applications for the John Schofield Trust Fellowship are open

Apprentice and early-career journalists from across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and – for the first time this year – the Republic of Ireland are invited to apply to join the John Schofield Trust Fellowship here.

Successful applicants will be provided with an experienced journalist mentor, a world-class professional matched specifically to the new Fellow’s background and professional interests. The programme includes access to exclusive monthly masterclasses and invitations to in-person events for further training and networking opportunities.

New Fellows will become members of the Trust’s Fellowship in perpetuity, gaining a source of help, inspiration and encouragement that remains throughout their working life. The current rota of Senior Fellows includes the great and the good of UK news media and can be viewed here.

Applications from aspiring journalists from under-represented or marginalised backgrounds are strongly encouraged. The Trust exists to create more diverse newsrooms that truly reflect society. Joining the Fellowship means becoming part of a diverse community that represents the future of the news industry.

As part of this year’s offer, new Fellows will have access to The New York Times for the duration of their 12-month programme, enabling them to access high quality global journalism to support their learning and professional development whilst taking their first steps in the industry.

Applications are open from 1 September until 7 October at 23:59. Find more information on the programme, including eligibility and what you will need to provide when you apply, here. Find inspirational career stories and quotes about the programme from the current Fellows here.

Successful applicants will be informed and matched with their mentors from the Senior Fellow pool in October and November and start the 12-month mentoring programme in January 2023.
