Noises Off is a magazine made by emerging theatre critics for emerging theatre makers at NSDF, a week-long annual festival celebrating the next generation of artists. Anyone attending the festival can write for the magazine and get involved, but there’s also a group of dedicated writers at the festival who spend the week asking questions about the work they see, interviewing artists, honing their critical skills and receiving mentoring to help them take the first step into arts journalism.
As a writer for Noises Off, you’ll attend the festival events and watch performances and readings, writing reviews and articles about the festival. You’ll see your work published in the magazine and online, work closely with editors, pitch in with making a zine, challenge yourself and question the status quo of the theatre industry. You'll meet some of the most exciting emerging theatre companies and have the opportunity to attend a programme of workshops, performances and discussions. We encourage experimental writing and don’t care if you haven’t been published before. For an idea of what Noises Off does during NSDF, head to their online archive.
The writing team will meet daily for short check-ins in the Noff Office (Noffice) space, and they'll work closely with each writer to ensure that you feel challenged to grow and develop your writing on a schedule that suits your needs, particularly in terms of the screen-time demand of a festival.
Noises Off supports writers to challenge themselves, and their readers, with life-changingly good criticism and ideas about theatre and the arts. It’s a communal environment for young writers to write together and think together, and a stepping-stone towards professional writing. Writers for Noises Off in recent years have gone on to become paid critics for national newspapers and industry publications.
How much will it cost?
