Brighton Fringe 2019 Bursaries Open for Applications

Each year, a number of bursaries are offered to new and returning participants, helping them to put on a Brighton Fringe event and launch their career in the arts. Brighton Fringe work with external partnering organisations to be able to offer this exclusive funding, with five organisations currently offering fifteen bursaries worth a total of £6,000.

Sophie Calvert, Participant Services Manager at Brighton Fringe, said “I’m thrilled that we are able to offer a variety of bursaries to Brighton Fringe participants for 2019, with the wonderful support of our partners and sponsors. I’m particularly excited about our brand new South East Dance bursary for this year, which will offer one artist or company a free Fringe registration, as well as cash support and exclusive mentoring sessions with the South East Dance team.”

The Pebble Trust, Brighton Fringe’s principal sponsor and patron, will also be supporting participants for the ninth year running, by offering three bursaries to young people wishing to put on an event. The event can come under any of Brighton Fringe’s twelve categories, including theatre, comedy, dance and music.

Louise Arnell, co-founder of The Pebble Trust, said “I’m delighted to be working with Brighton Fringe again in 2019 to offer this bursary to young people in Brighton & Hove. I encourage all eligible applicants from every level and discipline to apply – it is a rare and unique opportunity for young people to gain a vital first step into the arts whilst receiving invaluable support and encouragement.”

Other bursaries on offer this year include the Encore Insure bursaries, which offer five free registrations to theatre, dance and spoken word events; the Irene Mensah bursary, applicable to participants who can demonstrate artistic engagement with marginalised and/or vulnerable people; and the Brighton Lions bursaries, which offer five free registrations to participants aged 60 or over.

All information on Brighton Fringe bursaries for 2019 and links to apply can be found on the Brighton Fringe website.
