Interview with Joseph Morpurgo

Joseph Morpurgo takes some time to talk to Voice about the show, inspirations, and to give advice to young people.

Interview with Joseph Morpurgo

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

Hello. My name is Joseph. I am from London. I went to Dame Alice Owen's School from 1999-2016. I like comedy and music but I do not like sport.

How would you describe your show?

It's a sort-of adaptation of a very old horror story, with added subliminal pulse signals

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

Between the gazillion shows of all shades and stripes and the glut of high-quality burger vans, what's not to love?

What differentiates it from other festivals?

More shows, more burgers.

Do you think the Fringe has changed over the years? If so, how? Are these changes positive or negative?

The emergent Free Fringe and its various offshoots have been a huge boon to the Fringe, as has the festival's continued growth – you're never more than 200m away from something surprising / esoteric / inspiring.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

I'd like to be Lil Uzi Vert, please.

What is your earliest childhood art memory?

Art Attack with Neil Buchanan.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

Look at the derelict wasteland that is my Twitter account and you shall have your answer.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

Approximately twelve months in length.

If you could work with anybody, from any point in history, who would you pick and why?

Geoffrey I of Provence

(NB. I was a bit intimidated by the magnitude of that question so I just hit Random Article on Wikipedia and went with that. Hold on, I'd better just check he wasn't a despot or something)

(Supplementary NB: it's cool, he seems alright. He just loved building monasteries).

When and where can people see your show?

It's called Hammerhead and it's on at 8pm in the Pleasance Courtyard.

And where can people find, follow and like you online?

@josephismissing

Joseph Morpurgo: Hammerhead is performing at Pleasance Courtyard at 20:00 on 2nd – 28th (not 14th). For tickets and more information visit the Ed Fringe website.
