Interview with Sisters

Voice talks to one half of the sketch duo Sisters about their upcoming EdFringe show

Interview with Sisters

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

Hello, my name’s Christy, and I play the part of Mark in sketch duo: Sisters.

Tell us about your show?

Our show is the product launch of our new service: Sisters On Demand, in which you the audience pick what sketches you would like to see. Netflix? More like Sketchflix. smileyface

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is it different from other festivals?

We love Edinburgh. Also it feels like the natural place to take your live show until you’re cool enough to not have to do live stuff anymore and make big sexy tv content dreams come true. It’s similar to festivals that are like it but different to, say, a food festival.

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

We are big fans of lots of lovely inspiring stuff: The Mighty Boosh, South Park, Community, and this kid on YouTube with 2 subscribers who uploads videos of him and his dad going to the supermarket and his Dad just ignores him the whole time. That’s the grind right there.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

Sometimes events make you want to write about them but the real challenge is being able to do so in a way that doesn’t come across as worthy and make you look like a try-hard-woke-boy. I guess our sketch-world occasionally flirts with social commentary but will always try and make it funnier and weirder than it is preachy.

Equally, do you feel there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

Yes.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

August comes quickly baby boy

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

It’s best not to encourage anyone else into the arts. We can’t eat as it is.

And what advice do you wish youd been given when entering the industry?

‘Ok, boys, here is a map to a field that grows fully-scripted 4* and above Fringe shows. Pick only what you need.’

When and where can people see your show?

Pleasance Courtyard: That. 8.15pm.

And where can people find, follow and like you online?
