Interview with Colin Cloud

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

My name is Colin Cloud and I’ve been described as being the closed things in the world to a real life Sherlock Holmes.

Tell us about your show?

This is my sixth Edinburgh show, it’s called PSYCHO(Logical) and it’s a dark mind trip into your own subconscious causing you to challenge the way you perceive the world, whilst having your mind blown by yours truly.

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is it different from other festivals?

I love it because it’s the one time of year I’m not on the road performing in theatres around the world … I get to sleep in my own bed every night!

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

Reading the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and wanting to find ways to give the audience the experience of real deduction and mind reading.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

Yes. Every year is a wonderful new challenge to create new material that’s different to and better than what I’ve performed before, whilst staying current and relevant to what’s happening in the world.

Equally, do you feel there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

No.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

Busy. Fulfilling. Creative. Eye-Opening.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

Do it. Just make sure it’s good and you’re proud of something unique you’ve created.

And what advice do you wish you’d been given when entering the industry?

Everyone telling you it can’t be done, or you should do it a different way. Ignore them! (Unless you know and trust them implicitly!) Otherwise, stick with your vision, do what’s never been done before, break all the rules and you’ll rise to the top.

When and where can people see your show?

8pm. Pleasance Grand. Every night in August.

And where can people find, follow and like you online?
