Interview with Justin Moorhouse

Justin Moorhouse takes some time to talk to Voice about his upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show

Interview with Justin Moorhouse

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

I’m Justin Moorhouse Comedian. Actor. Dog Walker. Parent. Undercover Vegan and Northern Joker.

Tell us about your show?

It’s about being old and uncertain, and it’s funny, it’s got puffins in it and Dundee.

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is it different from other festivals?

It’s training camp for clowns. It’s brutal and fun and rewarding and joyous and desperate and all things in between. It’s a whole three weeks and more which makes it less festival more endurance takes.

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

I literally couldn’t think of anything else to do, I was falling apart as a human (too deep?). Les Dawson and Billy Connolly.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

No - the events that shape me happen at bus stops, in my house as well as the wider world, of course I live in the real world and see it.

Equally, do you feel there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

Not really, I’m as sick of Brexit as you are and that’s what I would talk about.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

Uncertain, scary, unseasonably warm, delicate

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

Lower expectations, raise objections, widen vision, open wallet

And what advice do you wish you’d been given when entering the industry?

To just concentrate on the funny.

When and where can people see your show?

7pm Gilded Balloon Teviot.

And where can people find, follow and like you online?
