Hi, Creative Collisions! Why don't you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
We deliver Arts Award with young people (aged 13-16) at our National Saturday Art & Design Club, in partnership with Time & Tide Museum and East Coast College, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
I'm Genevieve Rudd, the Youth Engagement Officer at Time & Tide Museum. Alongside my job share colleague Tricia Hall, I coordinate the project through our Creative Collisions youth arts network. We deliver Bronze and Silver Arts Award to young people in the Great Yarmouth area.
Sounds great! Tell us more about what it involves...
Creative Collisions is an imaginative youth arts network where like-minded young people develop skills, share ideas, produce events and communicate opportunities in the arts. It's supported by and based at Time & Tide Museum with local high schools and colleges.
We use the network to promote and support the delivery of Arts Award. Being part of a network increases the potential for sharing resources such as staff time, spaces, equipment and skills. Time & Tide Museum contributes coordination time, access to collections and professional skills. Every project is inspired by collections or aspects of local heritage and work created by young people is regularly exhibited at the museum.
And what do the young people do as part of the Arts Award project?
The young people took part in a range of visual art mediums over the Saturday Arts Award sessions from 2016 - 2017. This included mark-making, plaster casting, Constructivist inspired construction, fashion, pinhole photography and gelli plate printmaking. In December 2017, our group had their Arts Award Bronze portfolios moderated and we're delighted to say that they all passed!
Yipeeeee!
The new term for the 2017 - 2018 programme has started and those returning to the programme will now be supported to do their Silver Arts Award.
Exciting! And how was the project gone down so far?
We've had some excellent feedback from young people and their parents and carers alike. Recently, one of the partners said:
“Thanks to everyone involved in providing this group for the young people, it is a marvellous project and has made a great deal of difference to my daughter's life, so much so that she wants to study art and design at college” (December 2017).
