Interview with Ed Night

Ed Night takes some time to talk to Voice about the show, inspirations, and to give advice to young people.

Interview with Ed Night

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

Hello, I am Ed Night. I am a comedian and such a Pisces.

How would you describe your show?

Stand-up comedy.

Why do you want to perform at the Fringe?

People keep telling me I need to get out of the house.

What differentiates it from other festivals?

It's more expensive and harder to get to.

Do you think the Fringe has changed over the years? Are these changes positive or negative?

It's more saturated but more popular - so better for people going to see stuff but harder for performers.

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

My A Level results.

If you didn't have your current job what would you probably be doing?

Plumber or something.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

Plumber or something.

What is your earliest childhood art memory?

Getting mugged outside a stationer.

Do you ever feel pressure to be a social commentator or update your current material to reflect current events?

Yes, but I'm very good at fighting that urge and writing about Tinder instead.

Do you think there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

People wanna hear more about politics and less about Tinder now.

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

Grime for Corbyn, fidget spinners.

If you could work with anyone from history, who would it be and why?

Daniel "Sgt. Gavin Troy" Casey, cos then I would only be one degree of separation from John Nettles, who narrated Airport.

Benefits and limitations of free vs paid Fringe?

Paid Fringe makes you feel like a big shot, free Fringe means you have some money.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show to the Fringe?

Be really famous.

Where and when are you on?

8:30pm, Bunker One, Pleasance Courtyard.
