Want my job? with Melissa Day, Founder of Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

I’m a seasoned Integrative & Preventative Medicine Practitioner professional. With 17 years of experience in the Health and Beauty Industry, my purpose is to empower others to understand their own journey of self-discovery, bridging the gap between their psychological and spiritual growth, to obtain optimum health and well-being. This is achieved through my offerings which include the signature “Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual” (non-surgical facelift), Luxury Transformative Retreats and Zoom Talking Therapy which is based upon Inner Child Therapy.

What does your job involve? What happens on a typical day?

A typical day is split between Zoom Talking Therapy, for one-to-one, couples and groups (families/friends/colleagues) and delivering my Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual which is a completely natural alternative to Botox and cosmetic surgery.

My job involves doing a very thorough profile on clients before our sessions commence. This ensures that we have a plan that is holistically focused and completely tailored to specific needs and requirements.

Can you tell us more about your Talking Therapy and Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual?

Zoom Talking Therapy involves multiple modalities, however it is based upon Inner Child Therapy. The inner child is something considered as a valid part of the human psyche by psychology. In spiritual terms, the inner child can be described as the essence of our soul. The intention behind Inner Child Therapy, is to provide people with tools to reconnect with their inner child, in order to free them from emotional and mental issues. The Inner Child Theory is that these fundamentally exist as a result of childhood experiences. Revisiting the childhood experience and forming a healthy relationship with this part of who we are provides the basis for healing to occur. Essentially, as children we are adapting to survive but in an unhealthy environment, how we adapt can be the determining factor in how we proceed into the future in an unhealthy way.

Ultimately, Inner Child Therapy helps to integrate the adult self, with the inner child. During each session, it is a constant dialogue, verbal and non-verbal, to pinpoint where specific behavioural and thought patterns have derived from. Once this has been examined, the process of Inner Child Therapy, is one which enables you to re-parent yourself. My role is to act as a guide, to help the client to approach different aspects of their life, for example, relationships or career, with responsibility and care.

The Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual is an “intentional approach to ageing”, by understanding what that person’s perception of ageing is and goals are. For example, some people really love the expression lines that have developed around their eyes and mouth over time because they feel it tells their story. I have clientele that are from creative industries, such as film actors and they cannot undergo such procedures as Botox and cosmetic surgery, as it would hinder their ability to produce expressive facial movements. Their goal is usually very much focused on overall facial rejuvenation and healthy skin.

As well as this, the Ritual is designed to support all musculoskeletal issues and regulate the immune system and organ function. As a guide, I help people to align with self-love and self-worth so that this radiates from their core. If you’re feeling well on the inside, it’s going to show on the outside.

What’s great about what you do?

Helping people. I’m bridging the gap between psychology and spirituality to obtain optimum health. That’s exciting to me.

What are the toughest parts of your job?

The toughest part of my job is being self-employed, as there are natural peaks and troughs in income during any year.

What are the highlights of your career to date?

Building a global clientele through my Zoom Talking Therapy. For example, I held a group session; two people in London, one in India and two in Australia, all on the same call. It’s wonderful that there is no barrier to providing my services. That only happened because of the pandemic, forcing me to go online and set up a professional Zoom account.

What's been the biggest challenge so far in your career? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been the fear of failure. However, once I realised that failure was in fact my “superpower” and I learnt to understand the value in failure, my mental barrier was lifted which encouraged me to take risks and simply try new strategies and approaches. As Tom Bilyeu says: “Successful people are not afraid to make bad decisions because they know failure is the most information-rich data stream on planet earth.”

There is no faster way to succeed than to fail. It triggers areas of memory, focus and pain and it gets you to really look at that thing and if you don’t use the psychological immune system to make it somebody else’s fault and you go: “ah, this hurts and I never want to feel this again, what do I have to do” – and you make that change, now you’ll progress.

What was your career path into this job?

I gained a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts and my strengths were in singing and directing. Reiki was the modality that firmly guided me onto the path I walk today and it is the basis of everything I do. I understand the power of voice and the power of different art forms of communication. I now run very personalised retreats which have a creative approach to transformative health and well-being. For example, there is singing, vocal therapy, storytelling, movement, live music, poetry, visualisation, mindfulness and each recipe, on the carefully designed Ayurvedic vegan menu, tells a story that interlinks with the theme of the day.

I am challenged every day, with a new goal that a client wishes to reach and through specialised acupuncture techniques, the results literally transform someone’s appearance.

I hold a Behavioural Psychology and Advanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy qualification. These learnings are interwoven into my Zoom Talking Therapy. Interestingly, when doing my degree, I did feel that in order to get into the role of a character, it required a process, of understanding as much as I could, from a psychological standpoint, for an authentic acting portrayal.

Have you noticed any changes in the industry in recent times? If so, what?

Yes, in relation to the Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual, generated by the vegan movement. People are more conscious about what they put on their skin, wear and eat. As a result, people are more intrigued about natural alternatives to Botox, fillers and cosmetic surgery.

How has your background, upbringing and education had an impact on your artistic career?

Apart from my Performing Arts degree, nothing in my background or upbringing had an impact on my artistic career.

You’ve been granted the ability to send a message to 16-year-old you. What do you say?

I would tell her to understand her self-worth and value and that her innate kindness, compassion, sensitivity, honesty and light are strengths.

Do you have any advice for young people interested in your field?

If you want to get into a form of Talking Therapy, it’s essential to do very thorough inner work on yourself first. This is not only for your own health and well-being but also if you have greater understanding of your own thoughts and behavioural patterns, then you will be in a stronger position to help other people.

To get into cosmetic acupuncture, the first step is to have a treatment yourself, to understand how it helps you. Then find a reputable school and gain your anatomy, physiology and pathology qualification. Make sure you have credentials and that you can get the correct insurance that you need to practice.

Where can people find you and your work online?
