Exclusive interview with Cassa Jackson of 'Learning How To Love' fame

Learning How To Love is the current single from one miss Cassa Jackson, a mature take on the love song, this time dedicated to long term relationships, full of complications and compromises. We sat down with the vocalist and songwriter extraordinaire to find out more...

Hey Cassa! ‘Learning How To Love’ is such a powerhouse of a track. How easy/difficult did you find performing the vocal line? Do you have any vocal tips for those of us wanting to try it at karaoke?!

Heya! There are certainly some big notes in there for sure and it's definitely my most vocally adventurous and 'impressive' song yet, but to be honest when I was writing it, I felt the emotions so strongly and was so in the zone that I found performing it just came naturally and I surprised myself! Aha in terms of karaoke I'd just say take a deep breath before the big notes, but most importantly think about someone you love and the notes may just come out!

What has the reception been like so far?

Great thank you! I think people have really related to the subject matter. When I posted a video on TikTok of me teasing the song, even before the release, the response was incredible and people were tagging their partners in the comments and dueting the video with their partners which was amazing to see.

What was the inspiration behind the song?

It's all about a long-term relationship, I've been in the same relationship since I was 17 which is a long time at this age and we've managed a lot of long distance and so the song is a reflection on that. It's all about going through ups and downs in a relationship and supporting each other through that. I wanted to show that perfection in a relationship is born out of its imperfections.

When venues are open again, where do you most look forward to performing? What’s your favourite song to perform live?

I'm moving to London this summer and so I can't wait to do my first proper gig in London! I think 'Parallel Universe' is my favourite song to perform live because it's such a dreamy song and I can really get lost in the emotions. Plus it's my most popular song so people tend to know all the words and sing along which is so cool!

It was amazing that you got to perform in Pandora? What was it like to be in that episode? Were you nervous? Did acting come naturally alongside singing?

Having my songs used in Pandora was awesome! It's so cool to watch back the episodes and hear my voice (and the songs I wrote) playing over the scene! Being in it was also a lot of fun, the cast are great and made me feel so welcome!
