Kris James has had an interesting backstory having floated from band to band before settling on a solo career. He started out singing the music of legends such as Frank Sinatra and fellow Liverpudlian John Lennon in karaoke bars before joining several different outfits.
He has now released his latest solo single ‘Naïve’ which is taking from his forthcoming record ‘The Highs and Lows of Love and Life’ due later this year.
Written by James alongside his co-writer Stewart Boyle, ‘Naïve’ was penned in his hometown of Liverpool and recorded at The Cabin in Tileyard in London.
The melodic guitar intro sets the scene as James sings “I’m leaving the drama. I’ll leave you some karma” as he leaves someone who has created a toxic atmosphere. The upbeat horns create images of sun, sea and beaches and a real sense of freedom.
From a vocal point of view, James reminds me of Shane Filan of Westlife fame who actually released his own solo albums before reuniting with the world-renowned Irish pop group. He is in complete control at all times and it has a real richness to it.
Fans of aforementioned Westlife and the sunshine pop offerings of Jason Mraz might enjoy the music stylings of Kris James and ‘Naïve’ is the perfect taster of what’s to come.
