The “At our fingertips” is a dance presentation that was choreographed by Athena Mazarakis. The play is inspired by the current pandemic situation, but this makes it more interesting in that the audience is forced to pay so much attention to the detail so as to enjoy it. The choreographer made use of the props and dance moves to send out a message and also to make sure that the dance moves would help to entertain the audience without uttering any message. In the piece we see an emphasis on the virtually space being the prime factor. The choreographer uses a contemporary dance vocabulary that goes hand in hand with the main theme of the peace which is ‘At our fingertips’ the magic being imaginative yet relatable to the realistic world.
The dancers were up to the task that they were given as they were able to help the choreographer to send the targeted message to the audience. The dance involves 3 dancers which the number 3 resonates with creative self-expression, social interaction and optimism. It’s about creative expression; it supports and encourages the creative expression of others. Towards the end of the piece we get introduced to the 4th dancer being the reflection on the window. Number 4 resonates with the vibrations and energies of practicality, organization and exactitude, service, patience, devotion, application, pragmatism, patriotism, dignity, trust, worthiness, endurance, loyalty, mastery, building solid foundations, conservatism, determination, production and hard work.
The most interesting part of the piece that stood out is the switching on of the light bulb which on my observation is the symbol of invention and sometimes of intelligence. It’s also a symbol of connection. Light is one of the most universal and fundamental symbols. It is the spiritual and the divine, it is illumination and intelligence. Light is the source of goodness and the ultimate reality, and it accompanies transcendence into the Nirvana of Buddhist doctrine. ... Light is knowledge.
The music that was played in the background was very suitable to the movement as it was able to prompt a sentimental mood in the dance, transfixed by this amazing haunting sound. The inclusion of the type of music made the piece more dynamic and gets one glued in by the choice of the music.
The idea of the piece was as appropriate as it was able to bring together the right people in the dance. The choreographer also incorporated the importance of inclusivity this was a great idea as it motivates the disabled and gets everyone involved and to pay more attention in the whole.
