Raven - Chamäleon Productions

German group, Chamäleon Productions, put on a spectacular performance of ‘Raven’ at the Assembly Roxy. A visually impressive, honest and incredibly skilled presentation exploring the challenges of motherhood in the modern day, particularly the parents who are working as artists.

Raven is impressive from the start, as one of the trio climbs a rope hanging centre stage and performs an awe-inspiring aerial solo. This is then followed by a breath-taking contortion routine by another and flying routine, all excellently showing off the trios accomplished skills. The audience continues to gasp in awe throughout the production.

Chamäleon Productions challenge the audience to question any preconceived ideas we may have about working mothers, especially working artistic mothers, in a witty and incredibly sentimental way. With relatable monologues and skits sure to resonate with any parent in the audience, the trio have the audience gripped throughout.

The innovative use of their bodies to tell their stories is stunning to watch. They move with elegance and make their awfully difficult moves look effortless. Costume is well thought out and adds to the story with each change.

The ending is particularly special as they bring home the story they have been telling throughout. With a projection of their children mimicking their parents acrobatic skills and speaking of how proud and amazed they still are of their mothers, it is sentimental and moving to watch. The three rest and watch on with the audience until the end of the clip to which they receive a huge applause.

Raven is impressive, feminist and creative and is undoubtedly not one to miss out on.
