Female ejaculation is not a myth. It is not an act against nature, and it is not something that deserves to be banned from UK porn sites because it has been deemed too obscene. Why is the world so afraid of female sexuality? Ejaculation – Discussions about Female Sexuality explores this from the accounts of women all around the world, all with different backgrounds and with different views on what their sexuality means to them.
Their answers were all over the spectrum when it came to ejaculation; some had never experienced it, others had and described it as an out of body experience, but not one doubted its existence. Why does society? Why does the thought of a female being able to ejaculate conjure fear and incite resistance?
This piece of contemporary theatre is enlightening. It collaborates both definitions of the word ejaculation, climaxing and a verbal outburst, to paint a picture of what ejaculation means to women and why it’s so important that as a society, we acknowledge its existence.
Woman have spent the last century proving essentially that anything a man can do they can do just as well (if not better) but it seems that female ejaculation is the “last taboo.” It’s no secret that men and women both view sex in different ways; men associate sex with power and the spreading of their seed, so to speak, is that power; it helps create life and it’s their evidence of achieving orgasm. But what does the female squirt actually do? What is the clear, or milky liquid that comes from a woman during sex? Is the fact that it potentially has no purpose the reason why we must not speak of it? Is the fact that it takes a women to a place of complete ecstasy and satisfaction not enough? Is it only certain women who feel this kind of suppression or is it all of us? There are so many unanswered questions, but this show is that drop in the ocean that begins to charter some very undiscovered territory, in a safe place that empowers you to feel in control of your own sexual desires.
The Q&A portion at the end was a very nice touch that members of the audience used to ask any burning questions they may have had, and the encouragement given by the act to feel safe and open, left people very appreciative. This just goes to show how important shows like this are in starting a conversation and how much people want to be able to talk about a topic like female ejaculation without feeling ashamed, embarrassed or out of place.
A very well done for adding to the movement in such a tasteful and liberating way.
Ejaculation is playing at the Summerhall – Red Lecture Theatre @ 20:55.
