The show I attended on the 1st of July 2018 was a “Cream tea and concert” with award winning Kenyan recording artist: Alex Gichohi. I went to this concert because my family is good friends with Alex, I enjoy his music and he teaches my brother guitar. He (and his band) performed music in the style of the country he was born in, Kenya. Which involves a lot dancing. Alex is originally from Kenya as I have said then moved to England. He has won awards and is a recording artist. Here is a link to his youtube channel.

He is normally a solo artist and is nominated for best male artist in the 2018 sauti awards that take place in the USA. He also has three other nominations in different categories.
For the concert he performed with some other Kenyan musicians that are friends of his. When it started I didn’t know what to expect because I had never been to anything like this before, there were a lot of people there and all the seats were filled. When the band started they were very confident and they were enjoying performing. They created a free and fun atmosphere because it wasn’t just everyone sitting down watching them but we were all learning Kenyan dances and having lots of fun.
Personally I found interesting the fact that they were able to get everyone joining in even a lot of older people were dancing. Also, because I am learning the keyboard I also found it particularly interesting to watch the keyboardist playing. He played without music, really rhythmically and fast. During the performance I learnt about the Kenyan music culture and it made me think about how confident Kenyan people are about dancing and how it is just part of their culture.Plus I learnt about how to inspire people to dance when you are performing with crowd. Overall I really enjoyed the whole experience because it was really fun and it pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
Awesome stuff, Summer! I've never heard of Zangi music before.
