On Wednesday 20th December I saw 'War Horse' being performed at the New Theater, Oxford. It was a truly amazing performance.
War Horse is a play based on the book by Micheal Morpurgo. it involves mainly acting but puppetry is also used to create the horse and some birds within the play.
It was a very unique performance. the only thing that I can think of as vaguely similar is 'The Lion King' (also an amazing production) with the use of puppetry although in 'War Horse' the use of puppets was much more subtle allowing the acting to really shine through.
as I have already mentioned it was an amazing performance and experience. all of the actors gave really powerful performances, very believable and they conveyed great emotion to the audience. the use of puppetry was also amazing and added a wonderful unique twist to the play and it was beautifully done. the story line was very good and the theater company did an excellent job of the entire production, it kept you on the edge of your seat and literally made you cry and laugh throughout. they would build up the tension before making you jump out of your seats at a cannon or sudden gunshot(you have been warned :))
I have thought through this for a long time and I honestly cannot fault it.I definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it before.
War Horse is currently doing a UK tour and all the details are on the website http://www.warhorseonstage.com/
I've yet to see War Horse at the theatre - it looks splendid :D
