The Rose of Jericho

An intense piece of drama that will captivate you from the start

The Rose of Jericho

This show threw the audience straight in at the deep end, right into the middle of the story, using flashbacks to fill in the gaps in the audience's knowledge. The storyline was profound and, in places, extremely intense, was narrated very well and held the audience's attention throughout. The actor was convincing in the part of a soldier and I completely bought into his character. His stage presence was strong and he held his own throughout the performance, captivating the audience with each story.

The lighting was bright and strong and suited the mood of the piece perfectly. It only had to be simple to light the actor on stage but it was still creative and effective when it needed to be. There were minimal props and no set, which forced us to use our imaginations, adding to the overall effect of the piece. The sound effects were also simple, allowing almost all of the audience's focus to be on the actor and his story rather than the effects around him.

I really enjoyed the show, and despite how intense it is I think the storyline is really interesting and is an important one to hear. Overall this was a strong performance and an impressive one-man show.
