A truly 'Wicked' night!

A review of the recently-released 2024 film 'Wicked'!

A truly 'Wicked' night!

Immerse yourself into a universe of colour, corruption and consternation. Relish the deep and complex characters that appear, follow two unlikely friends as they attempt to solve Oz’s issues, gasp and cry at scenes dedicated to pulling at your heartstrings, savour the skilful vocal runs of both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as they belt out the classic ‘Wicked’ numbers...there’s no doubt this movie will be ‘Popular’ for months and years to come!

The acting on everyone’s part was of very high quality…Grande was convincing and displayed a myriad of emotions through the lyrics she sang and the lines she spoke. Erivo was the perfect Elpheba…glamourous, the right amount of sass, an introverted yet powerful portrayal…these two characters were arguably what brought the magic to the screen.

Costumes were intricate and reflective of each character’s persona - Grande, for ninety-percent of the time, was bedazzled in pink silk, and Elpheba on the other hand embraced her darker persona in moody, black attire for almost the entire film. The side characters, including the colourful citizens of Munchkinland, were dressed in clothing that reflected their joyfulness and bubbly personalities, and settings were exactly the same…colourful and engaging houses, fields, streets, classrooms and forests made the movie sing with a sense of individuality and distinctiveness.

Whether you’re a first-timer to the land of Oz, or a Wicked fan worthy enough to be a Munchkinland resident, this movie has a bundle of joy and sheer emotion to offer.

And this is only Part One.

I love how you've drawn on the fact that even the characters' costumes reflect their personality, that's so true! Great review of a great musical 💚
