The Silence Between Songs: A Madison Beer Concert Review

This is a review discussing my experience at Madison Beer's 'The Spinnin' Tour' concert to celebrate her album 'Silence Between Songs'. I will go through the sound check viewing, the opening acts, and my favourites of the night.

The Silence Between Songs: A Madison Beer Concert Review

On the 29th of March 2024, I attended Madison Beer's 'The Spinnin' Tour' concert at Liverpool. Part of the reason why I wanted to go was to write a review for my Silver Arts Project, but I was also a big fan of her music, so I saw it as a win-win situation. I attended with some other friends who were also fans of hers, so this made it an unforgettable experience for me!

Sound Check Viewing

During the sound check, Madison sang 2 Beatles songs – in dedication to performing in Liverpool. 'Yesterday' and 'In My Life' are two songs by the iconic band Beatles with Madison doing both songs justice.

I really admired her cover of the songs, as with both 'Yesterday' and 'In My life' she perfectly encompassed the nostalgia and emotions within the songs through her raw vocals with little backing track. 'Yesterday' is also a favourite of Madison's and her ability to show off her vocals and emotions was beautiful.

Opening Acts

The opening acts for the concerts were Jillian Rossi and Jann.

Jillian Rossi's opening acts consisted of sad pop love songs, which show off her vocal ability. My favourite performance was definitely 'Holy Bible', which was a nice contrast to her slower paced, sadder songs. Her stage presence was most obvious here as she encouraged the crowd to chant along to the lyrics, building a sense of interactivity even though she was not the main act.

Jaan is a Polish singer who was the second opening act of the concert. In comparison to Jillian, Jann's vocals were also very powerful, yet have a siren-like quality to them. My favourite performance was the song 'The Letter', as he was able to showcase his powerful vocals in this song. Even though I didn't understand the language, the emotions were conveyed through his voice.

My favourites of the night:

Ryder

Ryder is a song dedicated to Madison's brother, Ryder Beer. Personally, I felt that it was a song that is universally relatable to anyone who has a younger sibling(s). It's a slower-paced song, with a guitar strumming as the background instrumental, paired with her beautiful vocals, and the meaningful lyrics, this performance was definitely the most memorable of the night. Although it is definitely not her most vocally challenging song, nor is it her most creative, I feel like the simplicity of the song portrays the genuineness of siblinghood throughout its whole composition. To anyone who is the eldest sibling, I believe we have all felt the urge to comfort and protect your younger siblings, and this song perfectly encompasses that feeling.

Make you mine

Make you mine is Madison's latest single hit. This song is a catchy pop song, a contrast to the slow-paced ballad-like songs performed previously. With its repetitive chorus and upbeat instrumental, 'Make you mine' was enchanting, with memorable lyrics that everyone chanted to. While 'Ryder' brought a sense of relatability and comfort to the audience, 'Make you mine' excited the audience, and has a sound that makes you want to dance.

King of everything

As the finale for the night, this song perfectly closed The Spinnin' Tour setlist. King of everything is likely one of Madison's most vocally challenging songs, showing off her runs and high notes throughout the song. The piano instrumental and electric guitar in the outro of the song was a flawless end to the night, with a dramatic high note and soft piano setting the bittersweet end of The Spinnin' tour.

Reflection

Overall, the concert was an amazing and memorable experience for me, especially since it was my first concert. This concert and review of it has helped me empathise with the beauty of performing music, therefore making me feel more connected to music through the emotions she conveyed through her singing.
