The Van Gogh immersive experience review

This event was an immersive experience exploring the life of one of the worlds most beloved painters Vincent Van Gogh.

I attended the Van Gogh immersive experience on the 25TH of august 2023. I saw many of Van Goghs artwork including The Starry Night (1889) and many more (although they weren’t the original). I also got to see many animations that demonstrated what “flashed before his eyes” before the artist died. I moved from room to room experiencing different moving projections of Van Goghs artwork. Within each room was a short summary of different parts of his life including how he cut his left ear off and how he died. In one room there were tables lined with chairs that you could sit at and colour different paintings of Van Goghs art and make it your own using crayons. In another room there was a 3D replica of how his bedroom would have looked based off his paintings ‘The Bedroom’. The last room was the best room, it was full of projections such as animations of his paintings that covered the walls, floors and even the ceiling at times, it also had benches that were placed against the walls as well as benches and bean bags in the middle for people to sit. Scattered around the room were deck chairs that allowed you to lie back and experience the projections as if you were lying down.

The immersive experience was part of a large tour where the events were being held in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. However, each experience was unique in itself although the majority included people moving from room to room.

I wasn’t expecting to be able to create my own interpretation on Van Goghs paintings using crayons. I really enjoyed taking my own spin on the colours and the “brush strokes“. The event made me more aware of how he developed his paintings and allowed me to take inspiration on future artwork I do.
