A DAY AT THE WONDERFUL OPERA HOUSE IN BARCELONA
For my Part B, I went to the Liceu, the Opera House in Barcelona. I was visiting my grandmother who is a pianist so I enjoy going to these places with her. The building doesn’t seem very interesting on the outside, but on the inside it is really cool. In 1994 there was a fire there and a lot burnt down, so it had to be restored.
Our seats were very far back, nearly at the end but that gave us a view of everything, which was spectacular. The concert we went to see was Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol. There was an orchestra and a choir made up of teenagers. My favourite part was an artist who made pictures out of sand to tell the story. You could see these drawings on a screen. At first I thought these drawings were pre-recorded but then when we stood up to clap I saw him on the stage. He had to work very quickly but his drawings were amazing.
All in all, I really enjoyed the experience. Just being in the big opera house was really fun and it is so pretty. I found the way Scrooge sang a little old fashioned, however I know it was supposed to be like that, it just isn’t the music style I usually like. I really liked the orchestra and I especially liked the sand drawings that helped you understand the story. The songs were all in Catalan but there were subtitles in different languages on the screen. They were a bit small so the sand drawing really helped understand the story.
We weren't allowed to take photos during the concert, but here are some I took before and afterwards.

That opera house looks amazing. It is very nice to see how teens attend these classical pieces, even though it might not be considered trendy, they can still enjoy it and find the beauty in it.
