The Secret Diary of Henry VIII, Shrewsbury Castle performance Review

A one-of-a-kind funny show!

On a chilly evening in July, me and my family visited Shrewsbury Castle and enjoyed watching a hilarious live show called The Secret Diary of Henry VIII.

The play begins with “do we really know who King Henry VIII was?”  Henry, who kept a diary, narrated his life through 4 people about his triumph over the Pope, his several wives and lots of wars!  The 1st Duke of Suffolk also kept a diary!!

Henry (aka Harry) was quickly to become the next heir to the throne after his father died.   Henry never found out how to become a good ruler even though amusingly his dad’s ghost kept reappearing throughout the performance.

The comical twist is how Charles Brandon (Harry’s best mate) was helping Harry in every way but also trying to murder him whilst blaming all his blunders on anyone he could - including Henry’s many wives! A brilliantly portrayed play by the ‘Three Inch Fools’ which was fantastic for any age group.

I give this humorous play five stars 😊
