REVIEW: Maddox Jones 'Ready To Be Better'

Felt stuck in a never ending spiral of mistakes, trapped inside of a suffocating box of mistrust and regret, Northampton singer/songwriter Maddox Jones breaks his way out with his new single ‘Ready To Be Better’, a transcending beam of sanguinity. Having already established himself in the 00’s indie scene with his band The Departures, Jones has had the time and experience to hone in on his songwriting dexterity, which is evidentially proven by this latest single.

Ready To Be Better’ hosts a bursting palette of catchy pop motifs along with the energy of a summery indie hit. Jones has created an up-tempo single that adopts an almost disco resonance, filled with huge 80’s inspired drums, shimmering synths, elegantly truthful vocal melodies and an anthemic chorus, ‘Ready To Be Better’ illustrates a craving of self-revival within.

Reflecting back on where he was before writing the single Jones states, “I remember picking up my guitar New Years Eve 2020 and I was in a place where I was pretty much sick of my own s**t. I decided to write a song about exactly where I was at that time. I looked at the time on my phone, took a deep breath and let the words pour out of me.”

The single comes as a preview into what Maddox has in-store for his forthcoming debut album ‘Belive It’, scheduled to release through Radikal Records on April 8th 2022. Acting as the lead single of the album, ‘Ready to Better’ joins ‘Make Me Yours’ and ‘Somewhere there’s a plan (Believe It)’, two already released, hypnotic singles that creates an exciting snippet into Jones’ highly anticipated first studio album.
