The BBC has announced a first-of-its-kind podcast accelerator programme for young artists. The Audio Lab grassroots podcast programme opened on 14 July. This incredible new opportunity aims to provide space for the next generation of audio creatives.
“We’re passionate about accelerating emerging talent and surfacing authentic voices with fresh perspectives” explains Audio Lab Commissioning Executive Khaliq Meer.
The package offers a range of resources to help develop and produce a new podcast. This includes bespoke training and mentoring, production and commission support, marketing and promotion, and funding, as well as access to the BBC Sounds platform.
BBC Sounds are open to a range of styles including but not limited to:
Monologue / spoken word
Conversation
Documentary
Soundscapes
Drama
Explaining the impetus for the programme, Audio Lab ambassador Claire Amfo says “There is infinite creative potential in the UK and the harsh reality of the industry is that there are still lots of areas that need balanced representation through the voices we hear and who is making those voices heard.”
It doesn’t matter how you prefer to get your point across, as long as your podcast aims to amplify untold stories, spotlight fresh perspectives, and reflect the passions, questions, and curiosities of the UK.
