Young people aged between 11-17 can enter the Newcastle Poetry Prize now! The deadline is March 3rd 2020. 

Newcastle Poetry Competition Young People’s Poetry Prize is Open for Entries

If you're an aspiring poet aged 11-17, the Young People's Poetry Prize could be for you. By entering up to 10 poems, you could become one of 12 selected young people to attend the prize-giving event at Newcastle Poetry Festival, which takes place from May 13th-16th 2020.

Who can enter?

You must be:

  • Aged 11-17 years old
  • A UK resident
  • Able to obtain permission from a parent or guardian.

What can I submit?

You must submit:

  • Poems that are titled and do not exceed 40 lines in length
  • Work that has not been published anywhere else
  • Poems that are type-written, not handwritten
  • Poems must be in English.

Who judges my entry?

The judge for this year's Young People's Poetry Prize is Vidyan Ravinthiran, author of poetry books Grun-tu-molani and The Million-petalled Flower of Being Here, which won a Northern Writers Award.
