Aged 18-25 and interested in museums and creative learning?

We want your innovation, passion and ideas to help us develop, create and deliver family activities for our September Acton Depot Open Weekend.  

Young Volunteer Project at London Transport Museum - July - September 2018

In celebration of the year of engineering the Acton Depot Open Weekend will have drop-in family activities, planned and run by Young Volunteers (aged 18-25) to inspire families and increase awareness of what engineering is in a fun and creative way. Join this project to work closely with museum staff to plan, develop and deliver these activities!

When: 

Recruitment afternoon: Wednesday 18 July, 1-4pm

Sessions: Wednesday 25 July, 10am – 3pm

Wednesday 1 August, 10am – 3pm

                  Wednesday 8 August, 10am – 3pm

                  Wednesday 22 August, 10am – 3pm

                  Wednesday 29 August, 10am – 3pm

                  Wednesday 26 September, 10am – 3pm 

Acton Depot Open Weekend: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September, 10am – 4.30pm

Where: London Transport Museum and the Museum Depot in Acton Town 

What the role entails:

  • Support in planning and running family activities 
  • Coming up with the activities as a group
  • Testing out different activities
  • Preparing resources 
  • Welcoming families over the weekend, introducing them to the activity and supporting them to have an enjoyable experience
  • Keeping the area clean and tidy over the weekend

Who we are looking for:

  • Enthusiastic 
  • Friendly 
  • Interested in working with families 
  • Enjoys arts and crafts 
  • Up for a challenge 
  • Interested in engineering (though not essential)

What you get in return: 

  • Opportunities to work with Museum staff and the families team
  • Experience of how a family activity works in a museum setting
  • A chance to test your ideas at a Museum event  
  • Soft skills such as presentation skills, teamwork, creative thinking, project management
  • CV training and employability skills support
  • Opportunity to complete an accredited Bronze Arts Award qualification
  • We provide lunch, refreshments and your travel will be reimbursed (Zones 1-6)

London Transport Museum (LTM) has been delivering Young Volunteer projects for 7 years, as part of our Young People’s Skills Programme (YPSP). YPSP uses the collection at London Transport Museum linking it to Transport for London to provide access to a range of inspiring and fun activities that meet the needs of young Londoners.

We offer various opportunities for diverse groups of young people to develop and deliver a meaningful project with the Museum. Throughout the year we recruit for Young Volunteer projects. As part of these projects you can gain a Bronze Arts Award!
