Project leadership opportunity with UK Young Artists

UK Young Artists 2019 ‘City Takeover’ is coming to Nottingham from Thursday 7th to Wednesday 13th

February 2019. Over this time nearly 200 artists from across the world, and all the creative art forms, will be showing and sharing their work in venues and public spaces across the city. UK Young Artists are looking to recruit a team of ten young people, aged 15- 20yrs, from all disciplines, to help run parts of their City Takeover programme, whilst working towards a Silver or Gold Arts Award.

Arts Award

Arts Awards are a unique qualification and opportunity to gain leadership experience whilst developing as an artist in your own right. To achieve the award, you will take on a personal artistic challenge, participate in a range of arts activities, attend events, meet artists and share your skills with others. Throughout the project you will create a portfolio to keep a record of your creative journey and along the way will be supported by an Arts Award adviser, who will act as your mentor and assessor. Further information about the two levels, and which would be most suitable for you, can be found at voicemag.uk/silver and voicemag.uk/gold. Please note that participants do not need to have any previous knowledge of Arts Award to take part in this project.

Nottingham 19 City Takeover projects

As part of the project you will work individually or in pairs, to support different aspects of the City Takeover programme. Opportunities include:

  • Running family activities

  • Working with the technical team

  • Leading on marketing and social media campaigns

  • Supporting artists during exhibitions and performances

With support from UK Young Artists staff, you will make artistic, delivery and financial decisions on your project area. Some roles will involve managing volunteers and working directly with members of the public, others supporting artists and venue teams.

Commitment and timeline

The full project will run from September 2018 to March 2019. The team will come together for a couple of hours every other week, at a venue in Nottingham city centre; meeting with UK Young Artists’ Engagement Coordinator who will help you to explore your individual Arts Award journeys and plan the City Takeover projects. Participants will need to be available during the City Takeover period, although specific times and dates will depend on which area of the programme you are working on.
