Love Should Not Hurt is a dance theatre piece that expresses the challenges/barriers in seeking help faced by ethnic minority women experiencing domestic abuse. It is underpinned by research in domestic abuse amongst minority ethnic women in the COVID-19 pandemic from a social psychology lens. The performance involves audience engagement and reflection on traditional notions of domestic abuse and the role of the intersection of gender and racial identities in this context.
Ankita and Erica are looking for a female/female identifying/non-binary dancer and a male/male identifying/non-binary dancer that is either in training or graduated LESS than 2 years ago with knowledge of partner work, floorwork and improvisation. Due to the nature/themes of the work they are only seeking applications from dancers of ethnic minority backgrounds to remain true to the work and allow voices often pushed down to have the chance to be heard.
LOCATION: Sheffield
Full availability on:
5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Sept (you’ll only be needed for 3 of these dates)
AND
15th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 20th and 25th Sept (only one date will be needed for the performance).
4 days of work including performance day.
This role is paid in line with ITC/Equity Performers rates of pay and travel budget is £85 for the duration.
Accommodation not provided so candidates based in Yorkshire or with family/friends in surrounding areas are better suited.
