Youth Card launched by leading social mobility charities

Social mobility charities Speakers for SchoolsUK Youth and Young Enterprise have worked together to create Youth Card, a free app to provide career development opportunities for young people aged 11 - 25 across the UK. This comes as the charities aim to address the biggest post-pandemic barriers for young people in the nation.

Youth Card will combine services offered by the three charities. This will include access to the UK Youth network, which supplies work and outdoor learning with over 7000 youth organisations. Additionally, users will be able to make use of Young Enterprise’s financial and enterprise programmes to develop skills and confidence in breaking down barriers to social mobility. As well as this, access to Speakers for Schools’ career programmes will be made available for users, which connects disadvantaged young people to sector leaders through high-quality work experience.

Youth Card is chock full of mentoring programmes, financial education and a range of discounts with leading retailers.

Employers such as Spotify, BP and the Bank of England have signed up to offer work experience placements through Youth Card, with insight days, CV training and volunteering courses also available through the app. In line with government guidance, all opportunities are currently virtual, but Youth Card will begin to display in-person opportunities when working from home guidelines are altered.

Youth Card also offers a variety of discounted services in conjunction with over 70 UK businesses, including 15% off Young Driver driving lessons and £100 off Camp EuroTrip. Thousands of Europe-wide discounts will be available through a partnership with the European Youth Card Association.

Jason Elsom, CEO of Speakers for Schools, said that Youth Card ‘represents a crucial tool for engaging with young people across the UK of all backgrounds, providing them with life-changing experiences which could determine their future career paths’.

The Minister for Civil Society and Youth, Baroness Barran, added: ‘It is wonderful to see three of our leading youth charities coming together to launch the Youth Card which opens up a whole new world of real opportunity, helping our young people get back on track and accessing the career guidance and support they need to succeed’.

Youth Card is available to download from the Apple Store and the Google Play Store now.
