Griff is announced the winner of the prestigious BRITs Rising Star Award, following in the footsteps of artists such as Adele, Sam Smith and Florence and the Machine.

Griff wins 2021 BRIT Rising Star Award

The BRITs are an amalgamation of the best talent we have to offer in the UK, and the Rising Star Award – previously known as the Critics’ Choice Award – is one of the most prestigious prizes that situates you above the rest. This year, the accolade goes to 20 years-old Griff, beating Rina Sawayama and Pa Salieu.

Griff, who grew up in Hertfordshire, signed to Warner Records in 2019. As an A-Level student she got her first Radio 1 play with her song ‘Mirror Talk’, and ever since then she has crafted her sound with powerful vocals, vulnerable lyrics and artistic direction.

Her growth as an artist has exploded, even through a challenging year for many artists. Griff noted this saying: "In my head I'm still screaming from the phone call when I found out. It's honestly such a miracle: how on earth did we manage to win a BRIT and break through during a pandemic?".

It may be a shock to Griff, but with songs like ‘Black Hole’, and ‘Love is a Compass’ fronting Disney’s First Christmas ad campaign, as well as her eagerly anticipated debut mixtape ‘One Foot In Front Of The Other’ in June, she has put in the work to acclaim such an award.

The BRIT Awards has been rescheduled for the 11 May and Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive, BRIT Awards Ltd said: “We believe that the best way to achieve this in 2021 is to move the show back a few months to May, and we are already at work planning a spectacular event that will remind us how important music has been in getting us all through these difficult times.”

So, if everything comes together, we should expect to see Griff’s acceptance speech, great performances, and a much needed celebration of music at the BRIT Awards in May 2021.
