Academy Awards 2019: Nominations

The 91st Academy Award nominations are out,  and there is - finally - good diversity within the choices

Academy Awards 2019: Nominations

The nominations for the currently still host-less Academy Awards came out on 22 January, and there is a lot to be excited about!

At the top of the lists with 10 nominations each is both The Favourite, starring Olivia Colman (who is on a hot streak following her Golden Globe win earlier this month), and Roma, the Netflix exclusive film written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, depicting his upbringing in Mexico City.

Vice, starring Christian Bale as former US Vice President Dick Cheney has eight nominations, as does Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born. Black Panther has a historic seven, and BlacKkKlansman comes in with six.

The nominations appear to be pleasing people on the internet, although it is still too late for 2019 to be a drama-free year for the Academy Awards, following Kevin Hart stepping down as host after historic tweets surfaced.
