Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?
I'm Georgie. I'm a 16-year-old from Sheffield, and I've just won the BBC Young Writers' Award 2019 with First Story and Cambridge University.
What first drew you to literature?
I've always liked making things up but I really only started writing two years ago - I've been encouraged by a writing group called Hive.
What is it like to win the BBC Young Writer Award?
It's absolutely brilliant. It's amazing to know you've been recognised - it was enough to know I've been shortlisted. I never expected it.
Tell us what your story was about?
'Jelly-headed' is the story of an ordinary night out that goes tragically wrong when a storm breaks and a freak lightning strike brings devastation. It's about friendship, guilt, and the absurdity of life.
Why did you want to enter the BBC Young Writers' Award?
I first heard about the Award through my writing group Hive, and felt there was nothing to lose by entering.
Do you want to pursue a career in literature?
I don't know what will happen in the future but I love writing short stories - there's a magic in short stories and they can evoke so many ideas and feelings. I love the precision.
What do you plan to do next? Do you have another story idea ready to go?
I'm always creating ideas but I keep them all in my head.
Can people find your work online?
Yes - 'Jelly-headed' is available to listen to on the BBC website at www.bbc.co.uk/ywa.
