Interview with Saskia Preston

"Most shows go unnoticed - be prepared for that or fight it with cash."

Interview with Saskia Preston

Could you first introduce yourself to the reader?

I’m a comedian, writer and whippet guardian living in London

How would you describe your show?

One liners and jokes. Also about how your imagination can be your best and worst friend

Why do you want to perform at Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

It’s the best place in the world to do hour shows. It’s a challenge especially with one liners to make something engaging for that long

What differentiates it from other festivals?

Scale and proximity to both a castle and a battered burger

What first motivated you to enter the industry? Who were your inspirations?

Working in advertising. I loved Peter cook and Mitch Hedberg then and now.

If you didn’t have your current job, what would you probably be doing?

I think I would have liked being a chef. But not the hours so major just like a lunch chef.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change the job but I might increase the opportunity and the cash.

What is your earliest childhood art memory?

Learning over the desk in kindergarten to scribble on another kid’s drawing. Graffiti for three-year-olds.

Do you ever feel any pressure to be a social commentator, or constantly update material to respond to events?

Not from others but myself.

Equally, do you think there has been a shift in public sentiment that has affected your work?

Yeah I think maybe we are looking for less subtle, less nuanced, more obvious, declarations from artists

Describe the last year in 5 words or less?

More divided colder hotter terrifying

If you could work with anybody, from any point in history, who would you pick and why?

Peter Cook. He was the funniest person I’ve ever seen

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take a show up to the fringe?

Most shows go unnoticed - be prepared for that or fight it with cash

When and where can people see your show?

Underbelly, Bristo Square at 13:50

And where can people find, follow and like you online?

@saspreston on twitter or saskiapreston.com for gigs etc
