10 ways to...get your Christmas on

Feeling down about the winter weather? I know I am! Whether you're five, twenty five or fifty, Christmas spirit is there for the taking. Here are 10 easy ways to catch hold of it right now.

10 ways to...get your Christmas on

1. Put your Christmas decorations up

Think it's too early? Rubbish. As soon as December hits, Christmas decorations are fair game. We all love it when the time comes to get the Xmas decorations down from the attic or out of cupboards and start to decorate the house for another Christmas. I love it when I come home to tinsel and lights, it can definitely give a house a sense of warmth….and let's face it makes us feel good inside.

2. Advent calendar

Advent calendars are a big sign Christmas is close, as it is the start of the official count down to the big day and what a way to start, by stocking your belly up with chocolate. This is the only time you can get away with treating yourself to chocolate every day.

3. Christmas Jumpers

Chrimboe jumpers speak for themselves! They can always get you in the mood for Christmas. Now some people may not agree but year after year I always find great Christmas jumpers in Primark. I can understand it may not be everybody's first choice but I think they do pretty well.

4. Mulled wine and Chestnuts (for the oldies)

Oooo mulled wine and chestnuts on a cold Christmas night. This is definitely a must for me. A hot blackcurrant squash for the younger ones will go down a treat also, or a hot chocolate.

5. Christmas Tunes

This is time where, yes, you can play Michael Bublé's Christmas album. Even though I do love a bit of Bublé on a cold winter night, my personal favourite has to be Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas, it just puts a smile on my face every time I hear it and I think it reminds us that Christmas is all about family and having our loved ones close.

6. Watch a Christmas Movie

Now there is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa to watch a Christmas movie with some Christmas sweeties. The Polar Express is a must see Christmas movie, if you haven't seen it then make sure you do this Christmas. Other favourites…Elf (I don't know a single person who doesn't like this movie) and Miracle on 34th Street which is such a heart-warming film, I watch it every year.

7. Christmas Shopping

This is something some of us may dread but I personally love the hustle and bustle of shopping during Christmas time. The best things to do is get in early before the shops open so then you can be first in as soon as those doors open.

8. Book a ticket to see a Panto

"Santa's behind you!!", "Ohhhhh no he's not", "Ohhh yes he is!!"...This isn't for everyone but you've got to admit, it is a lot of fun. Great for the kids!

Here are some of my suggestions of ones you cannot miss:

Aladdin - The Hippodrome panto is always a big-hitter, with more frocks and frolics than your average seasonal offering and twice the glitter.
At the Birmingham Hippodrome, 19 December - 31 January

Cinderella - This Christmas you shall go to the most magical pantomime of them all, Cinderella.
At Hastings White Rock Theatre, 11 December - 27 December 2015

Elf The Musical - Based on the smash hit movie and starring Ben Forster, Kimberly Walsh, Joe McGann and Jessica Martin.
At Dominion Theatre London, 24 October - 2 January 2015

9. Sing Carols

Carol singing is a big sign that Christmas is on its way. Go down to your local church or join a carol singing group and go to cheer up people with some much loved songs. My favourite to sing and hear is Silent Night, it is such a classic and is a song that can only truly be sung at Christmas.

10. A Letter to Santa

If this doesn't get you in the mood I don't know what will! This is a time where you can come together as a family and write a list of what you want from Santa this year. It definitely brings a bit of magic. There was always one thing on my Christmas list and that was a puppy. It took a few years of asking but I finally got two!! Santa can sometimes give you more than you wish for…if you are on his good list of course.
