My Word is Gold: Winners Announced!

Earlier in the year, we ran a call out for entries to our competition 'My Word is Gold', asking for Gold Arts Award Unit 1, Part D thinkpieces, and wider opinion pieces about the arts. We're delighted to announce the results:

Freya Averley - Children in the circus and education: ready for the world?

Runners Up

Kolby Coxall - Who do you appreciate more, the actors or backstage crew?

Zinzi LaBonche - I find arts education more interesting than academic education.

We had many more entrants in the 13-18 age group, so the judges decided to judge all entries in one category. We had some fantastic pieces, but these three stood out for their well-considered views and compelling arguments.

You can read all of the entries here, and we'll be publishing interviews with the winners over the coming days.

Once again, huge congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who entered 'My Word is Gold'.

Our judges were:

Dea Birkett - Founder and Director of Kids in Museums, and professional journalist

Henry Raby - Performance poet and political writer

Alice Young - Head of Drama & Performance at Trinity College London, and was involved in establishing Arts Award from 2006, and managing Artsmark

Jo Nead - Member of the Arts Award Youth Network, and a Gold Arts Award achiever

You can read the judges' bios here.
