A new exhibition at an independent South London art space will take visitors through an illusory building site into a futuristic gender fluid world.

Robots will flirt with black trans ancestors as art organisation Ugly Duck lends its Victorian Factory to 32 international artists who will explore themes around movement, transition and fluidity.

The exhibition will showcase a range of mediums including projection mapping, interactive light sculptures, prints, video art, experimental tech and alternative universes.

Rising London artist Aphra Shemza will present work and research that explores light, technology and sustainability.

She said: “Ugly Duck is an absolutely integral part of the London art world, facilitating groundbreaking and original events from the most radical artists working today.”

In addition, studio above&below, game designer Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and creative robotic trio Gaze Studio will all be showcasing brand new artworks for the first time in the UK .

While 22-year-old Ashton Attz, winner of the London Evening Standard Art Prize, will present work that champions diversity.

Ugly Duck Curator Deen Atger said: “In this show you will meet robots flirting with black trans ancestors, histories translated into projection mapping and holograms gazing at clouds.”

The five-day event will open on Wednesday, April 1 with an evening of performance and most of the artists attending.

On the Friday art collective Resolution will present a special AV show that will explore 3D visual perception using transparent screens and a multiple projector setup.
