The Great Animal Race of the Jade Emperor - Monday 06 August until Friday 10th August (11:00 - 17:00)

What animal are you? Find out your animal and see all the 12 Chinese zodiac characters in the exhibition with beautiful original artwork done by our artists from Taiwan. The highly detailed and colourful artworks were produced by traditionally trained Taiwanese artists illustrating events in the legends of the Chinese Zodiac animals.

The exhibition is free; but if you would like to discover more then why not bring your children to some of our workshops? Only £3 per morning activity or £5 per afternoon activity. Numbers are limited so please reserve your place by telling us if you are coming in the morning or afternoon and the date(s), or you can just turn up on the day if there are spare places.


Monday 6th August
Morning: 11-11.30 Story time. How Mouse Gave his Name to the First Animal Year.
11.30-12.30 Decorating a brownEnvelope with Chinese Calligraphy: Mouse.
Afternoon: 2.00-2.30 Story time. Hit Spring Ox.
2.30-3.30. Draw an Ox with the artist,
3.30-4.00. Animal Race Board Game,
4.00–4.30. Dance with the Dragon with traditional Chinese gong and drums.


Tuesday 7th August
Morning: 11-11.30. Story time. Lord Tiger.
11.30-12.30. Decorating a brown envelope with Chinese Calligraphy: Tiger.
Afternoon: 2.00-2.30. Story time. Jade Rabbit.
2.30-3.30 Make your own Rabbit paper doll.
3.30-4.00 Animal Race Board Game.
4.00 – 4.30 Dance with the Dragon with traditional Chinese gong and drums.


Wednesday 8th August
Morning: 11-11.30. Story time: Silly Billy, the Wise Goat
11.30-12.30 Decorating a brown envelope with Chinese Calligraphy: Goat.
Afternoon: 2.00-2.30. Story time: Cheeky Monkey.
2.30-3.30 Make your own climbing Monkey and a tree.
3.30-4.00 Animal Race Board Game.
4.00 – 4.30 Dance with the Dragon with traditional Chinese gong and drums.


Thursday 9th August.
Morning: 11-11.30. Story time: Five Colour Dog.
11.30-12.30 Paper cutting: Dog.
Afternoon: 2.00-2.30. Story time: Big Red Rooster.
2.30-3.30 Decorating a brown envelope with Chinese writing: Rooster,
3.30-4.00 Animal Race Board Game.
4.00 – 4.30 Dance with the Dragon with traditional Chinese gong and drums.


Friday 10th August
Morning: 10.30-11.00. Story time: Daughters of the Land God.
11.00-12.30 Temple of the Land God model building.
Afternoon: 1.30-3.30 Temple of the Land God Building continues with the artist.
3.30-4.00 Play Chinese Oracle Game with the temple!
4.00 – 4.30 Dance with the Dragon with traditional Chinese gong and drums.
