19-year-old Georgia was nominated for TrinityTalent 2020 for her achievements in film for her Silver Arts Award. She completed her Arts Award with South Screen BFI Film Academy and focused on making and editing film.

Georgia was nominated by Darrienne Price, her art form tutor. Darrienne said: "Georgia was in care when she began the Screen South BFI Film Academy and started her Silver Arts Award. She left care during her time at the Academy and only missed one session as she began to move in and out of temporary housing. Georgia demonstrated perseverance during the Academy in her role of editor dealing with and solving difficulties with the sound on the film with a great deal of personal time. During the lockdown, she had some socially distanced tuition but it was her own hard work and perseverance that enabled her to complete the Silver level. We consider that Georgia has shown commitment, stamina, and personal development."

The Trinity judges said: "Georgia continued to work independently to achieve her award despite personal challenges and has progressed so far with her art she is now a mentor for new BFI Film Academy participants. This shows tremendous growth and it's evident that Georgia has been able to use art as a medium to explore personal experiences."

How has your Trinity qualification influenced your progress with your art?

Arts Award helped me into my future in the creative industry and by looking at higher education opportunities. It gave me the opportunity to develop my creative skills in filmmaking.

Has taking part in a Trinity qualification helped you to develop wider skills?

It has improved my confidence and communication when working with others in a team. This is essential in my career development as I’m usually quiet and working with others in Arts Award really helped me improve these skills.

Would you like to tell us anything about the challenges you’ve faced this year, and how you’ve overcome them to achieve your qualification?

I’m a care leaver and I moved houses multiple times when I was working on my Arts Award which led to me losing my work somewhere along the way. However, with the support I received, I was able to complete the missing work and finish my Arts Award.

What are the next steps for you following your qualification?

My next steps in my qualification are higher education. I am in the process of receiving offers from the universities I applied for.

What are your career aims?

My career aims are to work in the film industry in sound or editing.

Have you got any advice for other young people working towards Arts Award or a Trinity qualification?

My advice is to always ask for support if you need it. When completing Arts Award, there is always someone who can answer your questions or help you with your concerns.
