Oliver Hodgson | TrinityTalent 2020

Oliver Hodgson is celebrated by TrinityTrinity for Artistic Achievement in drama.

15-year-old Oliver was nominated for TrinityTalent 2020 for Artistic Achievement in drama. He completed his drama qualification at Pangbourne College and attained Grade 6 Acting (Solo).

Oliver was nominated by drama teacher Rhiannon Bland. Rhiannon said: "Oliver was high achieving this year with a result of 93/100 for his acting exam, achieving higher than he expected. He worked extremely hard within lessons and outside of these to develop his performances and knowledge of the plays he was exploring. He really challenged himself to explore works that were a new challenge for him."

The Trinity judges said: "Oliver has reached a high level at a young age. The judges were impressed with his ability to engage with artistic material beyond his years, understand how to deliver credible performances, and show careful thought through comic timing."

How has your Trinity College London qualification influenced your artistic achievement

Having achieved 93/100 for a Grade 6 Solo Acting exam at the age of 13 years has really helped develop my confidence when starting my GCSE drama course this year and participating in my college production. It has also inspired me to consider further a drama pathway beyond GCSE and potentially higher education. It has ignited my love of drama, theatre and exploring new plays and productions.

Has taking part in a Trinity qualification helped you to develop wider skills?

This experience has encouraged me to branch into new and different fields surrounding acting and performing, for example, musical theatre. It has helped broaden my creativity when exploring a range of performance styles in my GCSE drama course.

What are the next steps for you following your qualification?

Naturally, I would like to continue to achieve my Grade 7 Acting exam, which I look forward to doing in the sixth form. When the time comes, I would like to look into drama schools and universities that offer drama courses nationally and internationally (e.g. Yale School Of Drama in America) and auditioning for National Youth Theatre.

What are your career aims?

My dream job would be to act in blockbuster films and TV. To be an actor would bring me great joy and wouldn’t feel like a job. It would feel like a dream.

Have you got any advice for other young people working towards a Trinity qualification or Arts Award?

My advice would be to participate in as much acting and public speaking experiences as you can. Doing this will not only further improve your acting skills, but it will also give you more confidence.
