16-year-old Kayleigh was nominated for the TrinityTalent ‘Class of 2021’ in the Progress category. She completed her Singing Grade 5 exam at Studio 61 and has shown real strength and resilience by overcoming obstacles and persevering.
Kayleigh was nominated for TrinityTalent by her mother Anita Hampton, who said: "Kayleigh is autistic, and she has anxiety issues. In 2020, Kayleigh fell really poorly and ended up in and out of hospital for almost six months. Thankfully, she pulled through but lost a lot of her voice control, notes and tone. Yet, she still wanted to carry on with her grades. Steve Lowndes is Kayleigh’s singing teacher, and he will tell you the same; she's worked her socks off to get her grade. I hope she gets some [recognition] for her hard work."
The Trinity Talent panel said:"Kayleigh has shown charisma and dedication from an early age while overcoming personal challenges. Despite having difficulties and setbacks, she has shown great determination to achieve her Grade 5 in Singing."
How do you feel about being selected to be part of TrinityTalent' Class of 2021' and being recognised in this way?
I feel honoured but also surprised.
How do you feel you have developed creatively and artistically in 2021?
I have developed discipline, but I also ensure I have regular practice habits.
What impact did your Trinity qualification have on your artistic development?
It has had a positive impact on me, mentally and physically, as now I know that I can achieve my goals and create my own music.
Has taking part in a Trinity qualification helped you to develop wider skills, such as communication skills, creativity or confidence?
It has helped majorly with confidence but also with communication with others.
If you took a digital music or drama exam, please tell us how you found the experience of recording your performance
Recording online has not been easy and has been stressful. Personally, for me, I found it easier due to my needs. But it has proven despite the circumstances you face that you can still achieve your goal.
What are the next steps for you artistically and creatively in 2022?
My next step after gaining my Grade 5 is working on a performance set ready for the future.
What are your longer term aims, for example for your future studies or work?
Gaining more music qualifications but also performing my sets that I have been working on and am currently still working on.
Have you got any advice for other young people working towards a Trinity qualification?
The advice I would give to others would be never to give up and not let people or life get you down – no matter who or what you face, you can achieve great things.
Is there anything creative you're currently working on you'd like to tell us about?
I am working on performance skills and sets.
