Zoe Scott, a name previously synonymous with rock and roll, released a Bossa Nova cover album last year, packed to the brim with jazzy reworkings of classic tunes. The latest to get this treatment, and a music video, is the Stevie Wonder classic, ‘My Cherie Amour’.
For this single, Scott released the music video as part of her ‘Wave of Love’ challenge, Zoe’s way of supporting professional dancers struggling to survive during COVID shut downs. Flaminia Ianno and Andrea De Angelis, two of the professional dancers affected by loss of work, are featured in this video, which is set in the sunny streets of Rome.
The beautiful choreography is interspersed with clips of the couple wandering the streets, mixing the everyday with the fairytale, something which is found time and again in Scott’s reverent songs. The idea of a once-in-a-lifetime love affair sits next to morning coffee in her glorious production which manages to sound exquisite and homely at the same time.
Scott’s vocals don’t lead the charge on this release, which acts more as a homage to the genre of bossa nova instead of a self-promotion. The humility is present, as is the knowledge of the genre, with Scott working with some of the best on the scene, including Antonio Carlos Jobim - one of the genre's pioneers - to pull off this record.
