My Verdict On The 2020 Brit Award Nominees

Here is my pick of who I think will win an award at the Brit awards 2020.

My Verdict On The 2020 Brit Award Nominees

It’s that time of the year again! The annual Brit Awards ceremony is set to take place at London’s iconic o2 Arena on February 18th 2020. Now in its 40th year, The Brit Awards is a prestigious night in the music industry calendar, celebrating the best artists putting out the best music in the past year. With the full list of nominees out, here is my verdict on who may be in the running to take home a famous Brit Award.

Billie Eilish

‘Ocean Eyes’ originator, Billie Eilish has arguably had one of the most successful music careers in the past 2 years. Having released chart-topping debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ in 2019, Eilish who is just aged 18 has become a household name across the globe. Nominated in the International Female Solo Artist category, Billie Eilish is bound to scoop the gong without a doubt.

Dave

Brixton-born rapper Dave is another artist who has dominated music in the past 12 months. Releasing several successful singles, EPs and albums since the start of his career including song ‘Funky Friday’, EP ‘Game Over’ and album ‘Psychodrama’, alongside winning Best Independent Track/Album at last years AIM Awards puts Dave in pole position to add another gong to the ever-growing list. However, as he is coming up against fellow artists in a similar genre fields including AJ Tracey and Post Malone, it will most definitely be a close call.

Lewis Capaldi

‘Someone You Loved’ hitmaker Lewis Capaldi has to be on this list too! The Glasgow born singer-songwriter has taken the mainstream music industry by storm, ever since Spring 2019. Single ‘Someone You Loved’ topped the UK singles chart and his accompanying full length ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ did the same in the UK Album charts, where it remained for several weeks. Now nominated for the second time for a BRIT Award, Capaldi is coming up against fellow Brit born males including Harry Styles and Sam Fender.

Lizzo

Melissa Viviane Jefferson, otherwise known as Lizzo, comes across the pond. Known for her pop-meets-hip-hop-meets-r&b-meets-soul music, as well as her public relatability, it's a combination of all this which has gotten Lizzo to where she is today. With 3 albums in her discography, sold-out tours and award wins, Lizzo will definately be up there but against Billie Eilish it will be a tough call.

Stormzy

Lastly, how can this list be completed without the one and only Stormzy. The past year in the career of Stormzy has only been a triumphant continuation of the ones previous to it. Having headlined the opening night of Glastonbury with a remarkable set and released LP ‘Heavy Is the Head’, Stormzy’s success has trickled on through into 2020. He has recently been announced as one of three major headliners at Reading and Leeds Festival, alongside his several Brit Awards nominations from Male Solo Artist to Song Of The Year, and not forgetting Album Of The Year. With his renowned style and political activism spearheading his music, it seems Stormzy will be walking away with more than one award at the Brit Awards 2020.
