My Final Piece

This is the final piece for my Gold Arts Award. I wanted to challenge myself to develop in contemporary art, building on my love of portraiture. In this painting I have explored texture having been inpsired by the texture of the clay when learning about handbuilding. The texture was achieved by painting on wood so that the grain showed through. Also using different thicknessnes of paint and using a dry brush sometimes rather than a wet brush. I have also tried to bring depth to the painting with the background colour and a muted grey tree drawing the eye in.

The painting is a stylised self portrait. The sunflowers are my favourite flowers and bring a vibrancy to the painting. I have a love of jewellery and so painted my favourite earrings on the tree. The thorns represent the constant pain that my back gives me.

This is really beautiful portrait. Thank you for explaining a little bit about what it represents because that really brings the whole thing to life. The sunflowers are beautiful and contrast the tree on the opposite side really well.
Thank you so much for sharing this, and it would be great to see more of your work.

Nyah, this is great, I love the portrait , an excellent likeness in, like you say, a stylised form. It's very striking and the yellows of your top and the sunflowers stand out beautifully. I can see you've learnt a lot about different art techniques. Very exciting to see you developing your own style and producing such strong pieces.
