The 30 Most Polarising Films of the 21st Century

The folks at Obscure Movie Stats have put together the 30 films of the 21st century that divide opinion the most.

The two recent films you can expect to be on the list are right up there. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are at #6 and #3, respectively. Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut, Synecdoche, New York at #28 was well liked but people simply didn't know it happened causing it to be an atrocious failure at the box office.

There is only one non-English language film on the list, the Taiwanese film, The Assassin at #8.

There are, however, some surprises. #21, Boyhood, while annoyingly long, was widely lauded all the way up to its Academy Award for Best Picture among others. Similarly, the previous year's winner, Birdman, is also on the list at #9. Paranormal Activity's and Saw's (#19 and #7) franchises have been anything but good, but those first films are still two of the century's most loved horrors. Also, #14, White Chicks, which was far-fetched to the greatest degree but well considered hilariously silly. On the other side of things, 2015's Jupiter Ascending at #29 was generally reviled, as far as I'm aware. Sacha Baron Cohen, Ryan Gosling, and Scarlett Johannson all make two appearances each.
