Interview: Alex from BBC's The Traitors

I had the wonderful opportunity of hearing from Alex himself about his time on the show - The Traitors, Season 3, answering lots of insightful questions about his time in the famous Scottish castle...

Interview: Alex from BBC's The Traitors

This year's series of The Traitors has officially overtaken Strictly Come Dancing as the most viewed BBC reality TV show, and to be a part of something that massive must be an amazing experience. Thankfully, I was able to catch up with this year's contestant Alex, hearing all about his time on the show, as well as what goes on when the cameras stop rolling.

'What I'd really love to find out first of all is, multiple people threw your name around as a potential Traitor for days before your banishment, but as viewers there was no obvious reason for this - why do you think it might have been?'

'People began to suspect me because I was flying under the radar so much. I larked around for the first while and I suppose that looked suspicious too because I was generally in good spirits until people started to suspect me, and then my demeanor changed. I could feel the tides were starting to turn. The other players thought that I was playing the nice guy who was actually planting seeds to get Faithfuls banished when I was coming forward with theories - typical Traitor behaviour.'

'You got to experience a fair few of the missions before your banishment, but which were your favourite and least favourite to participate in?'

'I was honestly a nervous wreck before all the missions - I am not athletically inclined at all so I dreaded every one of them! However I must admit, I surprised myself at how capable I was. I loved the rowing mission because for what I lack in athleticism I make up for with rhythm. The first mission with the gunpowder was horrific. When it was over, I lay in a pile of mud and almost passed away with exhaustion.'

'Definitely a tough ordeal then. On the other hand, obviously we only see an hour of screen time for each day, but what did you get up to for all of the other hours you were in the castle together?'

'When we are in the castle we generally talked game. There were some really nice moments when we got to know each other and shared parts of our lives - those were some of my favourite parts of playing because I love people, and I love connecting with them. Sometimes it was nice to blow off a bit of steam and just have a laugh together before everyone started banishing and murdering!'

'Speaking of banishing, what was the most intense round table moment that you experienced?'

'One of the most intense round tables for me was probably Elen's banishment. It was so emotionally charged, and seeing how upset she got I remember thinking "Alex, you've completely misread this and made a huge mistake" and lo and behold, I absolutely had. Seeing Elen get so upset made me feel terrible; it was after her banishment that I rethought my tactics, and the next day I helped to catch a Traitor! So the rethink worked, but it definitely didn't make me feel any better about the circumstances that Elen left under.'

'And finally, we know that you flew under the radar for a while near the beginning, but which other Faithful do you think maybe didn't get acknowledged enough on edit for their contributions?'

'To this day I still think Dan was such an excellent Faithful in that he was able to do what a lot of us struggled with, which was being able to remove emotion from our decisions and purely apply logic. Perhaps if all of us other Faithfuls had managed to do the same, we wouldn't have banished him for such bonkers reasons!'

'Thank you for sharing about your time with us Alex, and thank you everyone for reading.'
