What contributes to the build-up to Christmas in the UK?

A list of all the things that contribute to our excitement during the build-up to Christmas.

What contributes to the build-up to Christmas in the UK?

It’s almost Christmas and with so many festivities taking place in the build-up to 25 December, let's explore what contributes to our excitement during the festive season.

Shopping centre Christmas lights

Shopping centres around the country will be seen shining bright this Christmas with lights to wow visitors during the busiest time of the year for retailers. With these lights always being spectacular and super creative, they definitely can't help but catch your attention and puyou in the Christmas mood.

Christmas light switch-on events

Towns and cities have been switching on their Christmas lights in recent weeks and it’s lovely to see so many people come together to celebrate the launch of the festive season in their area - whilst helping boost local economies.

Coca-Cola's real magic Christmas truck

The bright red Coca-Cola Christmas truck has been iconic since it first appeared in itsHolidays are Coming Christmasadvert back in 1995. Since then, magical memories are created by the fans that turn up to the tour dates to see the truck in all its glory.

Christmas advert campaigns

We all know the attention Christmas adverts receive and this definitely contributes to the festive build-up, which makes sense since most ads appear on our television screens right up until 25 December. Companies like John Lewis set the tone for Christmas with these ads, leaving many people excited for what each year will bring.

Christmas shows and pantomimes

Pantomime is a very special British tradition which is well-loved and continues to evolve creatively. It introduces children to theatre and entertains everyone in the audience. Many talented artists have appeared in pantomime over the years and seeing a pantomime or any Christmas show is so much fun, it’s wonderful to make memories at the theatre and support the arts for generations to come.

Christmas music

Christmas music definitely excites me for the big day. One of my favourites is I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard. Christmas music is everywhere during the festive season from radio, TV, music platforms, supermarkets/shopping centres, music events and more.

Christmas food and drink

Mince pies, for example, are food you only get at Christmas which definitely contributes to the excitement during the festive season. Waiting all year for your favourite festive snacks and meals is a great reason to get excited for what's to come.

Christmas markets and ice rinks

Christmas markets and ice rinks definitely bring people together. they are the centre of outdoor Christmas fun and I think is really important as it contributes positively to boosting your mood.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
