8 women you should be listening to in Electronic Music

Women are producing some of the best sounds coming out of the electronic music genre. Here is a list of eight of them you should be listening to.

There’s a new wave of female electronic musicians coming through, that are responsible for taking the genre to new places. Genre-bending and innovative, there always feels like a personal undertone to their work, that stops their music from just being club bangers and turns them into works of art. Here are a few that any fan of the genre should be listening to.

Logic1000

The Aussie artist creates deep sounds that can both hype you up and mellow you out. Most of all, however, her music sends shivers down your spine. It's difficult to pin down what she does as an artist but you know it's good. All that can be said is that she creates banger after banger. And that is the highest compliment you could give.

Sofia Kourtesis

Berlin-based but born in Peru, her native country influences the music she produces. Single ‘Estación Esperanza’ transports you to the streets of Lima, and is colourful, vibrant. Most important of all, it makes you want to dance. However, Kourtesis isn’t all bright sounds. ‘Juntos’, the fourth track on the EP ‘Fresia Magdalena’ is intense, scattered with melancholic violins and chanting vocals. Whilst creating some fun sounds, the album also feels political and is a credit to Kourtesis’ talents.

Shygirl

Shygirl has already made an incredible name for herself, with her distinctive vocals and genre-hopping sound. She combines electronic with hip-hop and grime, extending her appeal beyond the electronic genre. ‘Cleo’ her recent single feels orchestral and epic with the violin strings at the start, making the launch into the club sounds afterwards even more satisfying. Shygirl’s following will only increase in the coming years.

Yu Su

Her most recent album ‘Yellow River Blue’ starts with the dynamic track ‘Xiu’, immediately establishing her unique sound. Yu Su takes you through different landscapes embodying both the natural world and soaring cityscapes in her music. She incorporates traditional Chinese sounds harmoniously into her electronic sounds. Yu Su is certainly someone to watch for the future.

TSHA

TSHA’s EP ‘Flowers’ is beautiful. She doesn’t just create pretty sounds, rather her music is scattered with feeling which lifts it significantly. ‘Demba’ is particularly joyful and easily my favourite track. With acclaim and collaborations from some of the electronic industry’s finest, there’s a great excitement building around what TSHA can produce next.

Ana Roxanne

Ambience at its best, Ana Roxanne creates music you can sit back and lose yourself in. ‘I’m Every Sparkly Woman’ is a highlight from her 2019 EP  ‘~~~’ that builds and conjures a swelling feeling inside of you. Ana Roxanne has managed to create a chilled sound that also captivates you, never wandering into background noise.

yunè.pinku

With four singles to her name (at the time of writing), you instantly want more from her. There’s a disorientating street fighter feel to her music, which swings you around and makes you feel like you are in a video game. Her collaboration with Logic1000 is a highlight, giving her true potential to be part of club anthems.

Peggy Gou

An undisputed leader in electronic music, Peggy Gou is perhaps best known for ‘Starry Night’. Her music is fun and poppy, fused with the Korean language. Recent singles ‘I Go’ and ‘Nabi’, transport you to the 90s whilst still being undeniably modern and trademark Peggy Gou.
