Voice's guide to Shakespeare400

Saturday 23rd April 2016 is the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Whether you are a huge fan or not we can't deny how important Shakespeare's contributions and influence on the arts have been. So check out what is going on, and how you can get involved!

TV

There is loads you can watch to celebrate the Anniversary. The main event will be a live streamed celebration on BBC 2 at 8.30pm. If that's not really your thing and you just want to celebrate by watching some classic Shakespeare lines, then check out the BBC's collection of bard films which have been put onto iPlayer. If you really don't like the traditional plays then try a fun adaptation; The Lion King, She's the Man and 10 Things I Hate About You were all based on his plays.

Books

Reading the plays and poetry seems like the obvious choice but there are loads of other ways to celebrate with books! Try reading an adaptation of his works, there are loads out there but the Hogarth Press Shakespeare Retold series has leading authors such as Howard Jacobsen and Margaret Atwood writing novels from his plays.

Equally, reading site Goodreads is celebrating with a range of posts, they kicked of the week with some deleted scenes written by top authors so it is well worth checking out.

Online

The BBC's Shakespeare Me is an interactive tool which brings Shakespeare into the modern world. Choose emojis to tailor your quote, which creates a very instagrammable image!

In Person

If you are keen to go to an event checkout the dedicated Shakespeare400 website to search or see the Guardian's guide for something near you.
